WHAT IS ART CONSERVATION?

 

Art conservation-restoration is a scientific discipline whose objective is that of preserving cultural property. The intention is to stabilize physical condition problems and increase the visual lecture of the work of art and if necessary intervene with an specific treatment to resolve the problem.

Conservators perform practices of technical examination, documentation, and treatment. Expertise monitorize of the environment to prevent excessive temperature, humidity, pollutants and light from deteriorating the artifact. 

Due to the many different types of objects and material type, conservation is divided into specialties. These include paintings, works on paper, archeological objects, textiles, furniture, and others. Conservators are highly prepared to repair damages such as cleaning, reassembling, inpainting while using materials that preserve and minimise future problems. All conservators function under the same values of preserving the artist’s original intent as well as the integrity of the object.
